BattleStar Galactica, The Series: Priceless and Cheeseless
I want to start with the fact that the new BSG is getting excellent reviews from the likes of Cinemax, UGO, Wired and scores of other sites. Both UGO and Cinemax sites are promoting it big time. It's so good that it shouldn't be on the Sci-Fi channel, which I feel is known for lame shows in general. Ever watch Stargate SG-1 without falling asleep with the remote in your hand? I rest my case. In fact, have you ever said to yourself "I gotta turn on the Sci-Fi channel"...? I didn't think so- they've never had a great show, ever. Trust me, I know, I've tried to like the Sci-Fi channel for so long now and couldn't, that I think I've spent more time watching shows on the Lifetime channel (TheVaginaChannel) than Sci-Fi, until now.. BSG has changed my opinion of the Sci-Fi station and, has become its flagship show. And rightfully so- I hope this show will spur other shows on the Sci-Fi channel with the same level of great writing skills, of which, I have always hoped Sci-Fi would produce. It only took them 10-15 years to do. So. Coming
from a fan of shows with intelligent plots, great characters and excellent
writers (IE. LOST, 24, CSI, Desperate Housewhores- Just kidding, I
don’t watch it [or Lifetime!], but they are whores..) it fits right in with the list. It has
great detail in with the story and you never know where it is going with the
plot. It's very realistic, has depth, has darkness, and sometimes it makes
you sit on the edge of your seat. The mesh of the new stark, drastic style
with accents of the old series, even though it has virtually nothing to do
with the old series, is well done. The upgraded Cylons are so top-notch cool
that you sit and wait for them to get screen time. And the 'other' new Cylons
will make you second-guess everything going on. The ships, the technology,
and characters are all very engrossing. The acting from the well-known actors
is superb. I haven't liked a captain of a ship like this since Star Trek:
Next Gen. The performances from the lesser-known actors are good, and gets
way better as the season progresses. It is a serious show about a futuristic
war, and the tactics used are phenomenal. The repercussions are enormous, and
you feel the weight and the disparity of "what do you do now?". One of its best aspects is that it treats the
viewer as an intelligent adult, and doesn't hold your hand or spoon-feed the
Gerber. It makes you feel the realness that it IS the last 50,000 humans left
alive in the universe, and 'we' are being hunted by a race of uncontrollable,
cunning, evil, self-replicating bots that we helped create. Just a lovely,
spitting image after ourselves. And they are completely pissed off…
like a killer bees' nest that just got whacked like a piñata….
Olé!

There have been so many scenes that have made me say OMG out loud, even for the littlest things like the camera angle used, the cinematography as a whole, or just for the tension of a single scene. Or maybe it's just for the hottest Blonde I've seen since the Tommy Lee video. 8] Unfortunately,
it's a show you can't really just jump in on; you have to watch it from the
beginning. Get the
first season on DVD that comes with the 4-hour mini series- that is the real
beginning of it all. You will be hooked on its "push the envelope"
style by the first hour of the mini-series, and you will want to know what happens next- Continuously. If you have
time to crunch this in, if you've watched the first season already, the
beginning of the second season can be caught on 1/5 on Sci-Fi. They are
having a BSG second season marathon all day on Sci-Fi on 1/5 (Hello? TiVo
Alert?), and then they start the 2nd half of the second season on Friday 1/6
@10pm. Or you can actually buy the first half of season 2, which was recently
released
on DVD. I know what you are thinking…buy half a season? Yeah, I agree it
smells like an Overlord Lucas marketing ploy but at least, you can buy it.
And if you arent already confused enough by all that, the first season has
been available (get the one with the Mini Series as a bonus DVD) for some
time now. There, I have provided a path to get up-to-date on Battlestar
Galactica, all you need is a lot of time this week, a little cashola and a
DVD player… maybe TiVo, a credit card might helpful, a car to get to
the store, gas, eh… but I can only show you the door. Check it out, what
the frak do you have to lose? That's right….Frak!!! I said it. It's an
inside ‘BSG joke’, you have to go outside the cargo hold to laugh.. -Unleasht |
