  Happy Australia Day

For our readers who live "down under", Happy Australia Day to you today.  For
those of you who may be wondering what that day actually is, and why I am
posting it here, here's your answer:

Australia Day commemorates the arrival of the first fleet of British settlers into
Botany Bay, Sydney.  One of the celebratory foods in honor of this day is a
"lamington", which is a cake covered in cocoa and coconut.

And for those of you who are fans of Star Trek, you may remember a certain
character named KHAN..  He and his "crew" had their own ship, known as
  the... Botany Bay.  Questions?

  Somebody Get Me A Doctor

I decided to quote Van Halen for this post, not only in honor of David Lee Roth
and his new DJ stardom moment, but also for this latest update-  Remember
back in the 80s, when you flipped through the channels and would occasionally
see a story on PBS about a guy from a little planet called Galifrey, who rode
around in a phone booth and spent his days helping folks on Earth?  Well, that
series, known as Dr. Who, is back on US TV..  Only difference is, these are brand
  new episodes!

The SCI FI channel has teamed up with BBC, to bring the latest Doctor
(I thought he could only regenerate 7 times?), to TV's across the great USA.
Even better, the doc is actually a man whose face is familiar to US
filmography-  If you've ever seen the remake of Gone In 60 Seconds, you'll

  **GASP** Games With Story?

Those crazy Electronic Artists over at EA are up to something no good.
Steven Spielberg has signed with EA's Los Angeles studio for three
original franchise properties. Basically three cash cows that will be
blockbusters ushering in a new era of gaming, making it truly next-gen.
Gone are the days of games covering their lack of story and direction
with graphics that are cutting edge. *tear* Oh how will I go on without
companies putting out ten different versions of the same game with the
only change being either 'special edition' or the addition of a number after
the title. What is EA thinking, making me think and follow a progressive
story as I try to see how much $#!t I can blow up.
Check the article out for yourself and read the impending triumph.

  Simpson's Go 3D.... again.

EA has just signed with Twentieth Century Fox Television, along with Gracie
Films, to produce a couple games about our favorite yellow family.
The games are all going to be original creations meant solely for
the Next-Gen machines. This is the part where you go break out
the bartman costume and ride a skateboard down the street, while making
prank phone calls on your cell.

But first, read the article here- Then ask yourself this question: How do you
make the characters look better in their game than they do in their TV show?

  FPS Dream Come True

How many times have you been playing a first-person-shooter game, wondering
if VR would ever kick in, actually putting you in the game one day?  Well, a new
technology called GameRunner has just come a step closer to making this

happen.  This hopped up tower-treadmill actually puts you in the running against
your competitors-  Literally!   Just make sure you have plenty of Gatorade..

  Cutting Edge: NVidia XPS

Today at the Consumer Electronics Show, Dell and NVIDIA announced a new
XPS system coming later this year that will sport not one, not two, but FOUR   GeForce 7800 GTX 512 GPUs running in a quad-SLI configuration. There are two
physical graphics cards in the system still, but each has two separate PCBs with
a GPU and 512 MB of memory on each.

  Virtual Economies?

There's a big thing going on. A major movement in the world called virtual   economies. They are part of the world of MMORPG's like World of Warcraft
and the upcoming Dungeons and Dragons Online. Here's an intresting article   about how big they are becoming, and what could be the very future.
One in which people never leave their computers...
or favorite games for that matter.
