BTDT Flashback: Star Wars SSP Vans

Back in the 70's, when Star Wars was still young (along with most of its first
generation fans), a toy line from Kenner was out that was a a must-have for
any little boy.  This toy line was known as SSP, which stood for "super sonic
power".  The line actually began in the late '60's/early '70's with the dawn of the
  Smash-Up Derby.

These toys were a blast for kids, and a nightmare for parents..  Why you ask?
Well, they came with a heavy-duty plastic ripcord that you fed through the toy,
and upon pulling it, the toy would let out a shriek that unveiled its "super sonic
power".  The "shriek" was actually the main wheel of the toy spinning at a high
RPM, and upon setting the toy on the floor, would allow the vehicle to make
.5 past lightspeed..  You can rest assured that sisters hated 'em, pets ran from
'em, and parents needed prescription drugs to tolerate 'em!

So how does this have any relevance to Star Wars?  At the height of the SSP
timeline, the fad of teens driving souped-up vans (I believe dubbed
"love machines"), and the debut of Star Wars, made this an ideal time for Kenner
to roll out one more SSP variant.  The result was a pair of vans, black and white,
that sported Star Wars graphics in an airbrushed type motif.  You can view a
pair of them still in the box here.

On a day like today, when the weather is cold, and the Star Wars newsfeed is
slow, I thought it might be nice to share a Star Wars memory with our reading
community.  Hope you've enjoyed today's flashback..

James Earl Jones Breathes Life Into CIII Figure

Some absolutely amazing news has been posted at The Official Site- The
figure offered at this year's Celebration III event will be none other than Darth
Vader himself.  But what makes this particular figure different from the rest, is
that this one includes the voice of the true life of Vader, James Earl Jones!  The
figure will speak 4 lines relevant to the Star Wars saga, as well as allow the
breathing feature like the one included in the voice changer helmet.  Is that
  a nice update or what??!!

preorders have already begun for this figure on eBay .

Samuel L. Jackson Refuses Film Opportunity

Our friendly-neighborhood Mace Windu has declined on a role in a new film
being directed by Jim Sheridan, because of the inclusion of rapper 50 Cent.

  Jackson was quoted as saying:

"Hollywood people think because one is successful in one aspect of
entertainment, they can bring them into this particular world and make
a success out of them.

"These people think they are worthy of you sharing time on screen with
them.  I don't particularly think that. Maybe if 50 Cent does five movies
and shows me some talent."

I think we have a wise man in the house!!  And here I thought I was the only
one who thought that way about Hollywood... Thanks Sam!
